UP IS DOWN AND DOWN IS UP

This satire comes from times when I felt incredulous and scornful of the thinking of theologians. They shape and size God, formulate the things they think He is and does, analyze, dissect and put Him back together according to their notions and desires and tastes. They put Him in a neat box, gift-wrapped, ready to be reproduced and mass-marketed to the ignorant masses the world over who swallow religious doctrine as unsuspecting fish swallow bait, hook, line, sinker and rod.

VERSE 1
It is commonly believed by small and great that God dwells in Heaven in royal estate,
That Satan in Hell lives in darkness and hate, that this will never change.
VERSE 2
God IS in Heaven and also in Hell, the psalmist does declare
And with sons of God in Heaven, says Job, Satan too is there.
VERSE 3
God is in Hell and Satan in Heaven the Scriptures testify
And only the sincere seeker of truth will faulty doctrine defy.
VERSE 4
God in Heaven, man on Earth and Satan in Hell is the creed,
Yet Satan walks to and fro in the earth and Emmanuel is
“God with us” we read.
VERSE 5
The Christian is seated in heavenly places, the heathen dwell in Hell,
Yet both walk the earth with Satan and God and where who is who can tell?
VERSE 6
To know the truth is to shed the lie and born full of lies we are;
It therefore takes a shedding of self and to all we’ve been taught we must die.
VERSE 7
The answer lies in the Spirit of God Who leads us to know all things,
And once we’ve discovered the answers we’ve sought,
To our souls peace and freedom He brings.

Couplet 1
Les petits et les grands croient communément que Dieu habite au Paradis dans une demeure royale,
Que Satan vit en enfer dans les ténèbres et la haine, que cela ne changera jamais.
Couplet 2
Dieu EST au Paradis et aussi en enfer, déclare le psalmiste
Et avec les fils de Dieu au Paradis, dit Job, Satan lui aussi est là.
Couplet 3
Dieu est en enfer et Satan est au Paradis, témoignent les Écritures
Et seul celui qui cherche sincèrement la vérité défiera une doctrine erronée.
Couplet 4
Dieu au Paradis, l’homme sur Terre, et Satan en enfer, est le credo,
Et cependant Satan parcourt la terre et Emmanuel est
« Dieu avec nous », lisons-nous.
Couplet 5
Le Chrétien est assis dans des endroits célestes, les païens habitent en enfer,
Et cependant tous deux marchent sur terre avec Satan et Dieu, et qui peut dire qui est où ?
Couplet 6
Connaître la vérité est abandonner le mensonge et nous sommes nés pleins de mensonges ;
Il nous faut donc abandonner notre soi et mourir à tout ce qu’on nous a appris.
Couplet 7
La réponse se trouve dans l’Esprit de Dieu Qui nous mène à connaître toutes choses,
Et une fois que nous avons découvert les réponses que nous avons cherchées,
Il apporte paix et liberté à nos âmes.
